CJ Box has made a niche for himself as the king of the true modern-day western thriller. And Open Season fits perfectly into his niche with his trademark: Wyoming-set, outdoorsmen-style people in small towns. As a Wyoming native myself, he clearly understands the people – who love and appreciate the outdoors – hunting, fishing and more. As the first novel of the Joe Pickett series, Open Season is intense, bringing together the outdoors, small town politics and even the game warden’s family. It’s an amazing thriller – unique in its setting and plot. Enjoy!
