REVIEW FROM BOOKS FOR HER:

This story, however well told by Sherry Jones, is tough take for a modern woman. A twelfth- century woman dares to live life on her own terms, and gambles and loses on a man she believes will do the same.  We cannot even begin to understand the reality of love versus duty in this time period, but more enduring (for me at least) than a legacy of a love that lasts their lifetimes and beyond, is that even a woman with a brain is still is nothing but a pawn- even to the man who loves her enough to ruin them both. I suppose in the end I’m not much for the senseless tragedy version of love, but as Jones points out:

“Every relationship- indeed every man and woman- remains a mystery to those outside it, as distant as the stars…”
