Coming May 5th: The House of Hawthorne

Look for it on May 5th: The House of Hawthorne by Erika Robuck

****4/5 stars- loved it!

The author of Hemingway’s Girl and Call Me Zelda works her magic with the bad granddad of dark trancendalism himself: Nathaniel Hawthorne of Scarlett Letter fame, and his artist wife Sophia.

Recommended readers:

  • For book clubs
  • For lovers of romantic historical fiction
  • And of those who like to look back fondly on their college lit days

Here’s my Rankings:

  • 4/5 characters
  • 4/5 plot
  • 4/5 overall

REVIEW FROM BOOKS FOR HER:

The House of Hawthorne brings to life the passionate marriage of Nathaniel Hawthorne–as you might expect, a dark and moody soul seemingly only redeemed by the bright spot of his artist wife, Sophia. To be honest, I’ve always found the transcendentalists a tad obnoxious, but I was utterly drawn in to their world. Erika Robuck cast a spell on me (perhaps she is a witch?) effortlessly adopting the tone of her subjects in order to tell their story. I’m absolutely off to see if her other novels accomplish the same impressive feat.
